One of the best things about the Christmas break is having plenty of time to read. I’ve picked five books that I definitely want to read next – three festive reads and two highly-anticipated books of 2020. (Although they’ll probably seep into January seeing as I’m not a very fast reader…). Here we go!

I love festive YA and there needs to be more of it, quite frankly. This year I’ll be reading Love, Secret Santa.

All About Us by Tom Ellen
Tom Ellen is one of my favourite YA authors (co-author of Lobsters, Freshers and Never Evers) and this is his first adult novel, out in October 2020. The cover is perfect and I’ll be reading this modern version of A Christmas Carol while listening to the He Is We song of the same name.
Ben’s always loved the holidays but this year his marriage to Daphne is on the rocks. When his old flame Alice gets back in touch, Ben can’t help wonder if he made the right choice all those years ago.
On Christmas Eve, Ben is catapulted back to 5th December 2005: the day he first kissed Daphne, leaving Alice behind. Now Ben must make the biggest decision of his life, all over again.

This festive novel, set in Norway, was recommended by my friend Melissa, who has an excellent taste in books.

I loved The Flatshare and I’ve been very much looking forward Beth O’Leary’s new book, out in April 2020.
Eileen is sick of being 79.
Leena’s tired of life in her twenties.
Maybe it’s time they swapped places…
This is my first read and I’ll be curling up with it on the sofa tonight.

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle
In Five Years, out in March 2020, is described as ‘a love story, but not the love story you’re expecting’. I’ve seen so much hype about this. Is it set to be one of the biggest books of the year?
Dannie Kohan falls asleep only to wake up in a different apartment with a different ring on her finger, and in the company of a very different man. The TV is on in the background, and she can just make out the date. It’s the same night – December 15th – but 2025, five years in the future.
It was just a dream, she tells herself when she wakes, but it felt so real… She’s determined to ignore the odd experience.
That is, until four and a half years later, when Dannie turns down a street and there, standing on the corner, is the man from her dream…
