Here are some of the new books I’ve added to my bookshelves recently!
Misogynation: The True Scale of Sexism by Laura Bates
Independent Bookshop Week was in June and I went on an east London bookshop crawl with my colleagues. One of the bookshops we went to was Pages of Cheshire Street, a beautiful new bookshop that stocks an eclectic selection of books by women, trans and gender diverse writers. I bought a copy of Misogynation as I want to try and read more non-fiction. It looks at the true scale of sexism in everything from relationships and the home to work and the media.
Tunnel of Bones by Victoria Schwab
Gifted: Scholastic kindly sent me a copy of Tunnel of Bones to review. It’s the highly-anticipated sequel to City of Ghosts (which I’ve just re-read via audiobook). I loved this book, so I cannot wait to read the sequel. This time, the story is set in Paris.
Sheets by Brenna Thummler
After a dinner date with Daphne, we visited Foyles and I bought two graphic novels to try and help me get out of my reading slump. As soon as I saw Sheets, I thought the illustration style was super cute. It’s about 13-year-old Marjorie Glatt, who feels like a ghost, and Wendell, who is a ghost.
Kid Gloves: Nine Months of Careful Chaos by Lucy Knisley
I also bought the latest graphic memoir by Lucy Knisley, who wrote Relish: My Life in the Kitchen. She recently had a baby and this is about her experience: “Her whole life, Lucy Knisley wanted to be a mother. But when it was finally the perfect time, conceiving turned out to be harder than anything she’d ever attempted. Fertility problems were followed by miscarriages, and her eventual successful pregnancy plagued by health issues, up to a dramatic, near-death experience during labor and delivery.”
Are any of these books on your TBR?
