Bookish Subscription Boxes / Illumicrate

ILLUMICRATE 4
I love receiving post. I recently signed up to Glossybox, a monthly subscription box that sends all kinds of surprise beauty products – from hair masks and eye shadow to nail polish and hair bands – straight to your door. I really enjoyed opening my first box, but I was even more excited when my friend Daphne at Winged Reviews launched a bookish subscription box, Illumicrate. I thought I’d tell you a little bit about it!

Illumicrate is a quarterly subscription box for book lovers. Each box will include one new young adult book, plus other bookish items, like bookmarks, jewellery and stationery. It costs £29.99 per box (with free shipping within the UK!) and Daphne has also done a lot of work to make sure she can ship internationally.

I’ve had a sneak peek of some of the goodies – including the book! – from the first box and I’m super excited about it. As with any subscription box, it’s always a bit of a gamble as to whether you’ll get any items you’ll love, but I think Daphne’s done a brilliant job to make sure that there’s something for everyone. I’m looking forward to seeing what else she’s included! I’ll of course be doing an unboxing post when my crate arrives (I can’t wait!), but if you’d like to find out more about Illumicrate (or to subscribe to the first box!) head over to Illumicrate.com.

Are you subscribed to any other bookish or non-bookish subscription boxes?

  1. Man, there are so many subscription boxes! I haven’t signed up for any… mainly because I’m unsure if they’re worth the price and postage.

  2. The landfallfreight is an awesome subscription box with graphic novels, I think you’re gonna love it! :)

  3. I’m tempted to sign up to this box! It sounds similar to owl crate. Owl crate is a US subscription box so shipping to the UK is expensive.

Illumincrate sounds amazing. It just costs me a weeks wages D:

    • Yes, very similar to Owl Crate, which is one I was reluctant to sign up to due to shipping. There’s not as many UK boxes.

      • There’s not. It sounds like a good investment but I couldn’t afford a monthly subscription right now as I only work part time. If you could purchase certain months and not others it’s deffo something I’ll consider.

I was going to email them for a free one to review but thought that might be cheeky :P

        • If it’s helpful, Illumicrate is only every 3 months, rather than every month! And it doesn’t automatically renew, so you can just get one box.

          • Ooh! I might give it a go then! :D

            • Hi, yes you only get one box every quarter and you can turn it on or off any time! Also the value of the items in the box is a lot more the price, and it’s free UK shipping. We are also lucky to have lots of exclusives for the box. Thanks for your interest and let me know if you have any questions!

              • Thanks for the reply Daphne!

I’m so annoyed that at the moment my work situation is preventing me from signing up because I’d usually jump at this chance to get a book subscription box!!!

It’s good you can turn it off. That gives more leeway if one quarterly you don’t have the funds.

                Good luck with Illumincrate! Xx

  4. oh wow! that is such a great idea! we have a subscription for a gamer box already but if I knew about this sooner I would have grabbed this one first, lol.

  5. Thanks for writing about us Stacey! 💛

  6. That sounds amazing! I checked the shipping rates and it makes the subscription way too expensive for me, but I look forward to your unboxing, so I can live vicariously through you :D

    • I’m sorry to hear that. We have tried our hardest to make international shipping as affordable as possible. Do stay tuned for some potential savings on this front soon by following us on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook! Thanks :)

  7. I’m so pleased I read this post, as I’ve been searching for a UK-based bookish box for months now!

  8. Ooo… I’m quite excited by this. Who doesn’t love bookish post?! I also really like that it’s kind of unknown at the same time, you don’t know what you’re receiving until you get it.

I look forward to seeing your thoughts on the first box.

  9. I’m so glad I found this. I wanted to subscribe to owlcrate but the shipping is too expensive. Illumicrate is currently sold out but I’ll defo keep a look out!
