Behold the Pretty Books! / May Book Haul

Behold the Pretty Books! / May Book Haul
Here’s all the books that I acquired last month!

Jim (who’s becoming a regular feature in my book hauls!) loaned me Journey to the River Sea, because I’ve never read a novel by Eva Ibbotson, and The Game of Love and Death. Daphne also loaned me The Good Girls, the sequel to The Perfectionists. A colleague was giving away some of her books and I took Jenny Downham’s Before I Die because I haven’t read it, despite enjoying the film.

I am supposed to be on a book-buying ban (as always!) but I visited Foyles Charing Cross road and bought two graphic novels: Through the Woods and This One Summer. I haven’t read many graphic novels but these two stood out to me. I also visited Bath and bought The Mystery of the Clockwork Sparrow from Mr B’s Emporium of Reading Delights and The Last Summer of Us from Topping and Company (posts about these bookshops coming soon!). Read about the rest of my trip to Bath here.

I was also sent a few books for review: My Secret Rockstar Boyfriend & The Lie Tree from Macmillan, Saint Anything from Puffin Books and The Lost and the Found from Quercus. I’m particularly looking forward to finally reading novels by Frances Hardinge and Cat Clarke!

Have you read any of these books?

  1. Clockwork Sparrow looks so good!

  2. Pretty books indeed! 😍

  3. I read Journey To The River Sea with my daughter and thought it was very good!

  4. *strokes the pretty books* Im excited to see what you think of This Last Summer!

  5. I read The Game of Love and Death several weeks ago and I was absolutely enamoured by it! It isn’t quite like The Book Thief, despite what the blurb says, but the voice of Love and Death were pretty solid. Hope you enjoy it!

I’ve seen The Mystery of the Clockwork Sparrow a lot on Instagram and I’ve been meaning to get it for ages now. The cover is divine and the blurb is interesting as well.

Super jealous that you can just pop in at Foyles any time you want. :( I went to the Foyles branch in Leicester Square and I loved every minute of the quarter hour I spent there. Definitely returning to London for Foyles and also that bookshop in Marylebone that you recommended.

YAY! I’m up for more bookshop tour posts! I’m going to live London’s bookshops vicariously through these posts, haha.

    Happy reading, Stacey!

    • I’m okay with The Game of Love and Death not being very similar to The Book Thief – I don’t think anything is! But I’m very happy to hear you loved it. And yes, The Mystery of the Clockwork Sparrow seems like your sort of book! Try and get a copy, if you can.

  6. Gorgeous post – these books are beautiful! And I can’t wait to read some! :)

On another note I wanted to let you know I have nominated you for the Beautiful Blogger Award :)

  7. I read the e-book arc for Clockwork Sparrow recently and it’s so much fun! I’m kinda debating actually buying it cause the cover is gorgeous – very Night Circus-y?

    Xx

  8. The Game of Love and Death, The Last Summer of Us and Before I Die are all awesome! I loved them! Before I Die is so much better than the movie! I have The Lost and the Found, Saint Anything, The Lie Tree and My Secret Rockstar Boyfriend to read, too. Happy reading! :)

  9. I really want to read Through the Woods, Saint Anything and Game of Love and Death. Cant wait to see your thoughts about them.

  12. I’m slowly working my way through all of Sarah Dessen’s books so I definitely need to pick up “Saint Anything” soon. “The Truth about Forever” by Sarah Dessen is one of my all time favourite books so I highly recommend it if you haven’t read it.
