Behold the Pretty Books!

Behold the Pretty Books!
Here are the books I bought, received and downloaded over the past month:

Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys
Follow Me Down by Tanya Byrne
The Sea Sisters by Lucy Clarke
Anthem for Jackson Dawes by Celia Bryce
Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Rebecca Wells
Mr Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan
A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin

I was sent Out of the Easy, The Sea Sisters, Anthem for Jackson Dawes and Follow Me Down for review, which is an interesting mix. I’m most excited about Out of the Easy since I adored Between Shades of Gray, but they’re all right up my alley. I also visited a local charity shop, which is well-stocked in books, and although I didn’t find many this time, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood was already on my wishlist and so I purchased it. (I had assumed it was a young adult novel, but it’s not! I love the deep south.)

I tweeted about receiving Mr. Penumbra, and I cannot wait to read it – it has been on my radar since being nominated for a Goodreads Choice Award.

And lastly, it was my birthday yesterday and my Dad bought me the George R.R. Martin box set. I cannot wait to start A Game of Thrones, especially since the third season begins soon.

Behold the Pretty Books!

Coraline by Neil Gaiman (ebook)
World War Z by Max Brooks (ebook)
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey (e-galley)
Swimming to Elba by Silvia Avallone (e-galley)

Coraline was a Kindle Daily Deal as part of World Book Day, and so I thought I’d buy it since I’ve never read it, although I listened to quite a few of the audiobook-type videos. I saw World War Z in the Kindle Spring Sale and jumped on it since I’ve wanted to read it for ages. I’ve also seen a little bit of buzz surrounding the science fiction novel The 5th Wave and so I’m looking forward to picking that up. And Swimming to Elba sounds like a controversial read about two young girls growing up in Italy.

I thought I’d also show you the DVDs I received for my birthday since they are all book adaptations!

Now is Good
The Perks of Being a Wallflower
The Virgin Suicides
The Picture of Dorian Gray

I’ve read all of the books except for Now is Good/Before I Die. I have two more to come because they’re not released yet, but I’ll show you when they arrive.

Behold the Pretty Books!

I’m looking forward to getting stuck into this month’s book haul! I hope you all enjoy the books you got this month too.

  1. Happy birthday for yesterday! Perks is so so awesome. And Dorian Grey, they did fairly well. THE WHOLE BOXSET? You lucky lucky person. Have a great weekend 🙂

  2. Happy Belated Birthday Stacey! I hope you have a wonderful year ahead of you! You’ve got some really awesome books :). I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. I saw An Anthem for Jackson Dawes on Netgalley, but it sounded a lot like TFioS so I decided to stay away from it, I hope you enjoy it though 🙂

Yay for The Game of Thrones Boxset! I better catch up on Season 2 so I can watch Season 3.

    • Thanks Savindi 🙂 I’m so excited for Season 3!

Yeah, that was the reason I accepted Anthem for Jackson Dawes, but I shall try not to compare them!

  3. I have read a not-so-nice review about Swimming to Elba, but I see its for review on netgalley. I am still comtemplating about whether I want to give it a try. Goodluck with your reading 🙂

  4. Happy belated birthday! Those books are super pretty, and I also look forward to reading Out of the Easy – I hope you enjoy reading all of them!

  5. Happy Belated B-day! Perks of Being a Wallflower is a beautiful movie; I’ve watched it over and over since I got it for my b-day in February

  6. Amazing haul, so many good books! And yay for ASoIaF! You’re gonna love the series. 😀 Looking forward to read your reviews 🙂

    Enjoy your books!
    My Haul

  7. I loved Between Shades of Grey too – I hope that Out of the Easy is as good! Is one of your other DVDs to come Life of Pi as you read that recently I think I saw on Goodreads & it’s a book adaptation? Happy reading!

  8. Happy birthday for yesterday; I hope you had a great day! You’ve picked up some really good books this month and, although I haven’t read Between Shades of Grey, I really want to read Out of the Easy so I hope you enjoy it. Happy reading! 🙂

  9. Looks like a great haul!

  10. Happy birthday! I’m really looking forward to the Byrne.

  11. I’m so jealous over your haul. You got so many books!

  12. Ugh, I’m totally drooling over most of the stuff you posted… but especially that A Song of Ice and Fire box set. Oh man. WAAANT.

    • I REALLY hope I enjoy Game of Thrones, otherwise I’m stuck with a very large box set xD. I’m hopeful though.

      • Haha. Yeah, that would be unfortunate. I hear they’re really good books. I haven’t read too much, but what I have read was interesting. It’s a little slow, but it was a good slow. I hope that makes sense. I just mean it wasn’t boring or anything.

  13. Happy belated birthday! I got ebook copies of Mr Penumbra and Swimming to Elba this month too, will look forward to your reviews. Enjoy!

  14. Based on your London bookshop posts, I reckon you’ll enjoy Mr. Penumbra’s… I picked it up on a bit of a whim last year and found it to be an interesting read.
