As I’ve said before, I absolutely adore the UK covers for Daughter of Smoke and Bone. They’re among my favourite covers of 2011 and this year so far, respectively. I love how the hardback (left) is shiny and metallic. It’s so incredibly simple yet beautiful and completely relevant to the story at the same time; a difficult feat. I feel the same way about the paperback cover (right), although this one has a little more detail (notice the cute handprint?). It’s really wintry and elicits curiosity: ‘what is behind the door?’ This edition needs to find its way to my bookshelves.
Today, the UK cover for the sequel, Days of Blood and Starlight, was revealed. At first glance, I was underwhelmed. I didn’t know what to expect, yet at the same time had a more dramatic and brighter design in mind. But after a looking at it for a few more seconds, imagining it as a solid hardback and picturing all the lovely finishes it will have (more shininess, please!), I was converted. (It helps that my favourite colour is blue!). I also love that the same typography was used. I can’t wait to have a copy in my hands.
Days of Blood and Starlight will be published 8th November 2012.
