Book Event: Girl Heart Boy Launch

Girl Heart BoyA few weeks ago I was kindly invited to attend the Boy Heart Girl by Ali Cronin e-book launch at Snog: Pure Frozen Yogurt.

I wanted to attend because I’ve been on a YA contemporary kick lately, as you may have noticed, and I was curious about this new series – one that does not dismiss or ignore the reality of teenage relationships, but actually uses ‘x-rated scenes!’ to promote the books! This is fascinating when compared to the US, where this sort of content is more likely to be banned across school libraries (e.g. Looking for Alaska by John Green) than actively talked about (of course, I am generalising here).

At the launch, we were treated to free frozen yogurt (with as many toppings as we wanted!), an exclusive preview of the series trailer and first episode in the video blog series, and a free download of the first book (No Such Thing as Forever). Girl Heart Boy is a YA summer romance series with No Such Thing as Forever available as an e-book now and the paperback will follow in August:

Real love. Real lives. The real thing . . . Girl Heart Boy is the irresistible new romantic series for teens.

Four girls, three boys, turning 18. Get set to follow their eventful final year at school . . .

Cass is Ms Monogamy. Ashley is a player. Donna is a party girl. But what about Sarah? Her friends tease her for being uptight, but she’s waiting for The One. Now she’s found him, but is he forever – or is Sarah just his summer fling?

Razorbill is promoting the series using fictional, realistic video blogs on boys, relationships, and life, with ‘Sarah’ as the vlogger. I personally think this is a fantastic way to get teenagers really engaged with the reading experience, especially as each video ends with a controversial discussion question. I’ll be interested to see whether they can build up a community of viewers over the summer – a new video is released every Tuesday. With the success of fictional vlogs such as The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, this could be really interesting!

Check out the first episode below.

Thank you to Razorbill and Snog Frozen Yogurt for putting on a really fun event! 🙂

  1. I haven’t had a lot of reading YA Contemporary fiction that I’ve genuinely enjoyed, but after watching this video I’d definitely like to pick it up when it comes out in paperback! I really like Sarah. For some reason she reminded me of Morgana (Katie McGrath) from Merlin; in that headstrong, knows what she wants kind of way. I think vlogging is a great way to promote a book. It’s nice to have a person in front of you who is telling you their story. Thanks for posting about it!

    • Yeah I’m wondering whether it has been done before for another book or series because it’s a really good idea! I never really used to read YA contemporary but I’ve read some REALLY good ones this year (you can see via the contemporary tag) and some have become my favourite books!

      • I did see that you read a lot of YA Contemporary ones:) To be honest I’m quite a picky reader. I’ve disliked some of the YA Contemporary books other bloggers have raved about and I really don’t like writing negative reviews about books because I feel bad that I just didn’t get into the story. I adored Looking For Alaska and Dash & Lily’s Book Of Dares. I’ve stayed away from Anna & The French Kiss because I feel like it’s a book that I would probably dislike, even though I’ve given the book as a gift to two friends and one of them loved it whilst the other hasn’t read it yet. So I’m currently refraining from reading YA Contemporary books lol. But I would so like to pick up No Such Thing As Forever when it comes out in paper back!

        • I used to feel the same way about Anna and the French Kiss! I’d never have picked it up if it weren’t for the rave reviews from EVERYONE. I’m so glad I did!

  2. You were given free snog?!?! SO jealous, that sounds like such a fun event! I haven’t heard of this book! Will add to my TBR, sounds like the perfect summer read, and what an interesting marketing campaign! Thanks for the rec!

    • Yes! I had natural with mini oreos and chocolate brownies (and my friend snagged an entire brownie for me) and then we went back to try mango and green tea as I’d never normally try them.

I hope you enjoy it! 🙂
