A few weeks ago I was kindly invited to attend the Boy Heart Girl by Ali Cronin e-book launch at Snog: Pure Frozen Yogurt.
I wanted to attend because I’ve been on a YA contemporary kick lately, as you may have noticed, and I was curious about this new series – one that does not dismiss or ignore the reality of teenage relationships, but actually uses ‘x-rated scenes!’ to promote the books! This is fascinating when compared to the US, where this sort of content is more likely to be banned across school libraries (e.g. Looking for Alaska by John Green) than actively talked about (of course, I am generalising here).
At the launch, we were treated to free frozen yogurt (with as many toppings as we wanted!), an exclusive preview of the series trailer and first episode in the video blog series, and a free download of the first book (No Such Thing as Forever). Girl Heart Boy is a YA summer romance series with No Such Thing as Forever available as an e-book now and the paperback will follow in August:
‘Real love. Real lives. The real thing . . . Girl Heart Boy is the irresistible new romantic series for teens.
Four girls, three boys, turning 18. Get set to follow their eventful final year at school . . .
Cass is Ms Monogamy. Ashley is a player. Donna is a party girl. But what about Sarah? Her friends tease her for being uptight, but she’s waiting for The One. Now she’s found him, but is he forever – or is Sarah just his summer fling?
Razorbill is promoting the series using fictional, realistic video blogs on boys, relationships, and life, with ‘Sarah’ as the vlogger. I personally think this is a fantastic way to get teenagers really engaged with the reading experience, especially as each video ends with a controversial discussion question. I’ll be interested to see whether they can build up a community of viewers over the summer – a new video is released every Tuesday. With the success of fictional vlogs such as The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, this could be really interesting!
Check out the first episode below.
Thank you to Razorbill and Snog Frozen Yogurt for putting on a really fun event! 🙂
